Tūhono Trust is committed to enhancing the capabilities of Iwi organizations through our Māori Affiliation Service, as outlined by the Electoral Act 1993. This service plays a crucial role in connecting individuals with their respective Iwi by managing and sharing their affiliation information securely.
Individuals seeking to affiliate with an Iwi can register through two channels:
the Electoral Commission on 0800 36 76 56
or the Tūhono website
Registration through the Electoral Commission ensures that individuals are New Zealand citizens who have declared their Māori descent. This registration process is supported by up-to-date information from various government agencies, including the Department of Internal Affairs, New Post, and Waka Kotahi, which maintains the accuracy and currency of the data.
Services Tūhono Provides
Tūhono Trust provides Iwi organizations with a detail report listing members who have disclosed their affiliation to their respective Iwi. This allows Iwi to maintain accurate records and engage with their members effectively.
Tūhono Trust is looking to expand its range of services in the near future to better serve the needs of Te Ao Maori.
